"Oh no!" you're probably thinking. What didn't seem to be happening in all those months (me having some kind of life-changing realization) is after all happening now?!
Nah, no worries. :)
(or, sorry to disappoint you, whichever way you want to look at it)
The reason why I'm wondering whether I shouldn't return to Boston is because of my (admitedly self-appointed) nickname, "Attila". In case you don't now Attila The Hun's reputation, they said no grass grew wherever he went. Well, I'm the reverse. Wherever I was planning to go, disaster happened before I arrived. Let's recap:
Greece: Financially down the drain
Turkey: Major earthquakes
Egypt (wanted to go there): Toppled its government, still in semi-chaos
Nepal (wanted to go there): Flooded
China: Relatively unscathed, only "minor" coal mine explosions
Japan: Tsunami, Fukushima
Thailand (rebooked my already existing flight): Flooded
Australia: Tornado
New Zealand: Earthquakes
The last 5 days here in NZ have also seen massive flooding, because it essentially rained without stopping for those 5 days straight. Which is partly also why I don't have that much to tell in terms of stories! After staying in Te Anau and seeing Milford Sound, I drove up from Queenstown to a small town called Haast (in the rain), then looked at Fox Glacier (in the rain), arrived in Greymouth in pouring rain, and then drove on to Arthur's Pass. There I said to myself "fuck it", because it was still raining. Arthur's Pass is small and cute (NZ's highest settlement, in the middle of the mountains), so I thought it's as good a place as any to wait out the rain.
Well, finally today it stopped raining, and I'm now in Christchurch! Where tomorrow I will have a look at the aftermath of the earthquake.
That's it for now! Next blog post will most likely be from either Sydney or Cairns.
Still got some new pics though!
